Hello Drummers 🥁 Well it’s wall-to-wall sweets and chocolate here at Ravebugs HQ, after a very successful Halloween weekend for our little drummers! Is it a coincidence that their favourite sweetie seems to be a Swizzels Drumstick? Whilst helping them out with their sweets, we got to talking about what makes the best snack when you’re playing drums. For Phill, it always used to be a Cornish Pasty, wrapped in a napkin and resting on a tom-tom, but since he’s become vegetarian, it’s been all about a half-time bag of chips with far too much salt on! What about you, what’s your ultimate drumming snack? #drums #drummer #drumming #drumlessons #music #practice #practicemakesperfect #drumkit #learning #lesson #musicteacher #cocktaildrumkit #one-leggeddrummer #musician #tuition #musictutor #skills #rehearsal #learn #eastbourne #afterschool #school #kids #children #adults #students #extracurricular #local #payasyougo

Hello Drummers, and happy half-term! 🥁 I don’t know how things are in your homes this week, but here at Ravebugs HQ it’s all about Halloween! Our two little drummers can’t get enough of it, there’s plans for all sorts of costumes, face paints, trick-or-treating and they seem to be playing ‘Thriller’ by Michael Jackson on a permanent loop! This got us talking, and wondering what everyone’s favourite Halloween songs are? Apparently ‘The Monster Mash’ is one of the most played songs at Halloween parties, along with the theme from Ghostbusters and ‘This is Halloween’. Phill has had requests this week to learn how to play the theme from ‘The Addams Family’ on the drums, and is doing a gig next weekend where he will be no doubt be rocking it up with more spooky classics! What about you, what’s your favourite Halloween song, either to play drums to, or to listen to? #drums #drummer #drumming #drumlessons #music #practice #practicemakesperfect #drumkit #learning #lesson #musicteacher #cocktaildrumkit #one-leggeddrummer #musician #tuition #musictutor #skills #rehearsal #learn #eastbourne #afterschool #school #kids #children #adults #students #extracurricular #local #payasyougo Blog post for 18/10/21
Hello Drummers 🥁 It’s been another busy week here at Ravebugs HQ, loads of drum lessons, online work, practicing and recording. Probably just as well that Phill didn’t have any actual gigs this weekend, as he’d have been asleep over the drum kit! Of course, that’s not something that’s ever happened in real life to Phill (although apparently he did once briefly fall asleep whilst riding a motorbike - eek!), but I think it would be even more unlikely if he ever had to play one of these… < What is this strange set-up? It’s called a Cocktail Drum Kit, and, believe it or not, you have to play it standing up! Not just that, you also have to stand on one leg, so that you can devote the other leg to working the kick pedal. Sounds fun, if a little exhausting! If you want to read a bit more about Cocktail Drum Kits, check out this link: https://drummagazine.com/portable-cool-the-drum-guide-to-cocktail-kits/ Pretty cool, eh? Have you ever played a Cocktail Drum Kit? Hello Drummers 🥁 Did you know, on this day (12 October) in 1962, The Beatles were one of the opening acts for a show headlined by Little Richard, in New Brighton? Me neither! Here’s something else you might not know… Our very own Phill once had dinner with Paul McCartney! He doesn’t remember much about it, other than it being at Paul’s house in Peasmarsh, and it being vegetarian food. To give him his due though, he was only about 16 at the time and was invited along by someone he worked with at a record shop. The shop, Max Records, was a very interesting place to be for young Phill, he got to meet lots of famous people who came along to do record signings and meet fans. Amongst Phill’s favourites were Kim Wilde, The Tweets (who gave Phill a Cadbury’s Creme Egg!), Alison Moyet, Bucks Fizz and Sir Cliff Richard (twice!) But I digress… What’s your favourite Beatles song? #drums #drummer #drumming #drumlessons #music #practice #practicemakesperfect #drumkit #learning #lesson #musicteacher #beatles #vegetarian #peasmarsh #musician #tuition #musictutor #skills #skillz #rehearse #rehearsal #learn #eastbourne #afterschool #school #kids #children #adults #students #extracurricular #local #payasyougo Ravebugs Blog Post 4/10/21
Hello Drummers! Another busy week here at Ravebugs, with lots of lessons but a rare weekend without a gig for Phill. Our youngest turned 6, so much of the weekend was about his birthday party - it’s unusual for Phill to be at a birthday party without a load of drums and percussion and the requirement to provide entertainment! Speaking of which, next weekend he’s got loads of lessons, gigs galore and a big 40th birthday party celebration to bring the drums to. If you’ve not seen one of our drumming parties, this means he’ll be there with our beautiful djembes, lots of percussion and will be getting everyone up and performing brilliant, banging drum patterns and tunes. If you, or anyone you know, might be interested in a similar event, please do get in touch! Have a rocking week, everyone! 🥁 #drums #drummer #drumming #drumlessons #music #practice #practicemakesperfect #drumkit #learning #lesson #musicteacher #musician #tuition #musictutor #skills #skillz #rehearse #rehearsal #learn #eastbourne #afterschool #school #kids #children #adults #students #extracurricular #local #payasyougo Ravebugs Blog Post 27/9/21
Hello Drummers! It’s been another busy week here at Ravebugs HQ, with loads of lessons and gigs. After the last year and a half, it’s still amazing to be able to see people face to face! Of course, this week there have been disruptions of a different kind, with the shortage of petrol. How have things been for you? We’ve managed ok here at Ravebugs, we’re very glad to have moved over to an electric car earlier in the year. If we hadn’t, we might have ended up with something like this: Here’s hoping that things will soon be back to normal! 🥁 #drums #drummer #drumming #drumlessons #music #practice #practicemakesperfect #drumkit #learning #lesson #musicteacher #musician #tuition #musictutor #skills #skillz #rehearse #rehearsal #learn #eastbourne #afterschool #school #kids #children #adults #students #extracurricular #local #payasyougo Hello Drummers!
Well, whichever way you look at it, from this week on it’s definitely Autumn now! I think Spring is my favourite season, you have all of Summer to look forward to, but there is something very appealing about Autumn, the crisp mornings, beautiful countryside and the cosy evenings. As a gigging musician as well as drum teacher, Autumn nights are great for gigs. The evenings aren’t yet too cold to put people off going out, and it’s much cooler to play in the venue than it is on a hot summer night! What’s your favourite season? #drums #drummer #drumming #drumlessons #music #practice #practicemakesperfect #drumkit #learning #lesson #musicteacher #musician #tuition #musictutor #skills #skillz #rehearse #rehearsal #learn #eastbourne #afterschool #school #kids #children #adults #students #extracurricular #local #payasyougo Ravebugs Blog Post 13/9/21
Hello Drummers! Here we are in the second week of the school term, and both our little drummers are settling back in well to their routines. Drum lessons are keeping me busy this week, plus I have a gig to think about at the weekend, videos to make, and practice to do. Practice is something that I don’t think it’s possible ever to do too much of. As the great Buddy Rich said, you only get better by playing. What are you practicing this week? #drums #drummer #drumming #drumlessons #music #practice #practicemakesperfect #drumkit #learning #lesson #musicteacher #musician #tuition #musictutor #skills #skillz #rehearse #rehearsal #learn #eastbourne #afterschool #school #kids #children #adults #students #extracurricular #local #payasyougo Hello again. I know it’s been a bit of a while since my last blog so I thought I would try and get something out before the end of November.
Here in the UK we have been put into another lockdown thanks to the global pandemic that is currently causing chaos around the world. This latest lockdown should only last until the beginning of December but it comes just as everything with our lessons and my gigs was starting to recover from the last lockdown in the spring of this year. Although we are, of course, still offering our lessons remotely via platforms such as Zoom, FaceTime and Skype these are not always suitable for everyone, especially those that are just starting their learning journey or do not have the time to commit to regular lessons. So with that in mind we have developed our first ever online course. Drumming for beginners is designed for absolute beginners. We take you all the way from picking up some drumsticks for the very first time all the way to playing along with some music. What is even better is we show you ways to practice and learn without the need for a drum kit! You can find Drumming for beginners at www.Ravebugs.thinkific.com As mentioned earlier we are still doing our 1:1 lessons from our studio but these have moved online again. Unlike our last lockdown though our younger students are still at school so the lessons are busier in the “After school” period between 4 and 6. Having said that we have a number of adult students that have their lessons during the day. The great thing about doing the lessons online is that they really can be done at any time really and also location is not important either. You, Or I, could in theory be anywhere in the world and still take advantage of having your drum lesson at a time that suits you. It’s great to be able to continue teaching even in the middle of a pandemic but also I cant wait to see you all again in a face to face environment. Stay safe and see you soon. Phill Today was a special day for us at Ravebugs. For the first time since March this year we have done all of our lessons face to face. It’s been a while and we have really missed doing the face to face drum lessons, but it is so exciting to start welcoming students back into the studio. Obviously we have had to make some changes to allow us to comply with current government advice during this pandemic but we feel that the changes we have made don’t impact 5he learning or enjoyment of the students.
It was so lovely to see everyone again and we sincerely Hope that this can continue. Stay safe everyone Phill |
