Blog post for 20/06/2022 Hello Drummers 🥁 Sir Paul McCartney turned 80 last week, and this got us thinking - what’s your favourite ever song that he’s been involved with? Is it the Frog Song (We All Stand Together)? Go on, admit it! 🐸 For Phill, it has to be Band on the Run (if we’re talking about Wings), but if we’re talking about The Beatles, it’s impossible to choose - though I know he does love In My Life (such a beautiful song). He has a distant boyhood memory of standing on the stage of the Congress Theatre in Eastbourne, singing and playing guitar to Mull of Kintyre, so that doesn’t stick out as a favourite! Hello Drummers 🥁 You know how it is when you’re scrolling through social media, you get bombarded with memes, cartoons and inspirational quotes in every other post (not including those pesky ads as well of course!). Well, every so often, one comes along that speaks to you just a little bit more than the others, and this particular one (see the picture) is one of those. ‘In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity’ - the wise words of Albert Einstein. When thinking about this with drumming, you can see that when you put in the time and effort to really get to grips with a difficult piece, breaking it down and unpicking all the parts, once you’ve ‘unlocked’ it, it gives you the opportunity to go further with your drumming and learn more.
